Disclosing the Water Gap Logo

Making sense of data about water insecurity can be difficult. Data on access to water and sanitation in the United States is partial and may not always be accurate. Reports estimate between 2 million (those without complete plumbing) and 30 million (those facing drinking water and wastewater violations) are impacted by inadequate access to potable water and sanitation. It is our hope that this dashboard will facilitate better communication when data does not always accurately depict water issues.

(Dis)closing the Water Gap is dedicated to making data about water insecurity easier to access and understand. We are also building capacity to house news, reports, and stories that can augment and make data more intelligible and immediate.

Begin exploring the data and news below.

Although numbers can be very useful, news, reports, and stories about water insecurity, can help to make sense of data. Sometimes the words augment and support data and sometimes they show us what the numbers do not always let us see. In any case, having words to contextualize the data can help us to make sense of and close the water gap.
